I don't get the positive reviews of this restaurant. The salsa was bland, as was the enchiladas. The rice was unremarkable yet the refried beans were runny and greatly lacked seasoning. We visit Nebraska City regularly yet this is one location we will not return to. There's Mexican food and then there's delicious Mexican food and this location is neither.

Good food. The servers kind of disappeared after we received our food. But the food is good

We used to eat here all the time when we lived nearby. The food was always great and the staff was always very friendly. We passed through Neb City last saturday night on the way home from KC and stopped by here late. Everything was just as we remembered. This is a very good - and consistent restaurant. Nebraska city is lucky to have it.

Overall - pretty good. Not a lot of choices in town, but this is still a good pick. Decent food. Good prices. Would come back next time in town.

This little gem in the middle of Nebraska City has a great lunch menu! The decor is really cute starting with the little colorful chairs at the entrance. The food comes quick and the salsa is the addicting kind! I had the Speedy Gonzalez which includes a heavily filled taco (I had shredded chicken) a chicken enchilada and your choice of beans or rice. It was all delicious!! And $4.99!! What an amazing deal for all that food. A must try here!

Worth the drive from Lincoln. We came on a busy Friday evening. We were seated immediately and had a margarita in less than a minute. The waiter was very friendly and polite. We ordered a chimichanga and a burrito, both excellent. We had the cheese dip as well, and it is great. Highly recommend this place.

This place was delicious! I called them at 9:51pm to ask them what time they close, and they said 10pm. I asked if I could put in an order for pickup, and they said no problem. The girl on the phone walked me through what my options were in the burrito category, and I settled on what I wanted. Ten minutes later I was in the restaurant paying my bill. When I got back to the hotel I was staying in, I dug into a huge burrito covered with sauces and sides, and it was the most delicious burrito I've had in awhile. Definitely beats most of the Mexican restaurants I go to in Las Vegas. What a pleasant surprise for a meal that was just supposed to cure my hunger. Thanks, El Portal!

No complaints here. It took me longer to decide what I wanted than it did for them to bring it out. Fajitas were fantastic. Salsa for the chips was a little watery but still tasty.

Our local friends bragged about this great Mexican food restaurant here in Nebraska City, and we said - we're from Arizona... Let us be the judge. Well, the verdict is in, and this place is guilty as charged - authentic, flavorful food served by a friendly family. Winner!

This is a very good Mexican restaurant to go to. I went several times and each time the food was outstanding. There is a Taco Tuesday, for those who love tacos. The place is very big and very clean. One of my favorite dishes was the shrimp cooked in a skillet with vegetables. It came with rice, beans, and tortillas. They also have the white cheese that most folks like. They serve alcohol and have TVs at the bar section. The dessert menu has fried Ice Cream. What a great place to eat!

Better than a lot of places in Lincoln for sure. I will drive back to Neb City for this place, and people I was with said the same thing. I had the jalascos fajita'sYUM! and we also had enchillada's and taco's also had quasidilla's too. can't wait to come back.

Best Mexican food and great prices. Could be compared to a La Mesa style Mexican restaurant but 100 times better than any La Mesa I've been too. A must if you are in Nebraska City!

Great food, fast service, very consistent! This place is amazing! The waiters are always very polite and great with customers. My favorite is the Guadalajara Special. The ElPortal margaritas are amazing! I have never had a bad experience at the location.

Quick service, hot and good food, salsa on the mild side for me. Overall good experience. Got the fajita burrito, requested cheese on the top. Perfect.

The service was prompt and really good. Our food was delivered expeditiously. The salsa was just ok and our fajitas were sort of bland. Aside from that, this restaurant was fairly clean and we were satisfied overall.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
